Cambodia is the land of temples, interesting markets, shrines, the horrors of the killing field, the wonders of the Khmer Empire in Angkor, beautiful seaside getaways, and so much more. It’s a country that has so much to offer, which can also be very overwhelming, especially if this is your first time visiting Asia. But no worries, we have the perfect trip for you to discover this amazing country!
Come join us on an incredible 6-day journey, ideal if you have limited time, but want to discover the highlights of Cambodia. We will start in Phnom Penh, the capital, where we’ll have no time to waste. First things first, let’s start off with a city tour. During the day we’ll discover Phnom Penh’s markets, shrines and temples, but also the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda.
A visit to Phnom Penh cannot be complete without getting to know more of the tumultuous recent past. And so on day two we’ll drive out to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Around 17,000 men, women, children and infants, were bludgeoned to death here after being detained and tortured at the S-21 prison. This prison will be the next stop of the day; it is changed into a museum about the horrible Khmer Rouge regime. The entire day is emotionally heavy, but this history is such a big part of the people and the country here, and therefore can’t be missed during this trip.
On the third day, we leave Phnom Penh behind, to head to Siem Reap overland. Along the way, we’ll make some interesting stops. While driving through the countryside we’ll pass typical Cambodian villages, and stop in Skuon. If you’re brave enough, you can taste the cities delicacy – deep-fried spider. Don’t worry, there will also be lunch served at a local restaurant. While continuing the journey to Siem Reap, we’ll make plenty of interesting stops, such as at the ancient capital of Chenla, with its 100 Pre-Angkorian temples, and the ancient Naga Bridge.
The coming three days in Siem Reap will spend in and around the beautiful temples this city is famous for. Angkor Thom, Bayon temple, Ta Phrom, Banteay Srei and many more will be visited. And of course, we will be spending a lot of time at the temple of all temples – Angkor Wat. That’s not all, as Siem Reap and surroundings have so much more to offer. We will visit Kompong Kleang for instance, the largest permanent community on the Tonle Sap Lake, but also “Les Artisans d’Angkor – Chantiers Ecoles” where you’ll see the work of young artisans, and a visit to the local market.
