If you go to Luang Prabang, the offering ceremony of the monks is a 'must-see' and definitely worth getting up early. You have to treat the ritual with respect; on the one hand it is a bit uncomfortable to be here as a tourist, for a matter that is very serious to the monks. On the other hand, it is very special to taste the mystical atmosphere. In the early morning the first monks arrive in their bright orange robes and a little later the locals place their offerings in the bowls of the monks. Hundreds of monks walk by without making eye contact with anyone. A special spectacle.
While the monks slowly retire to their temples, you can have breakfast and rent a bike, for example. This is an ideal means of transportation to discover Luang Prabang. The city breathes a relaxed atmosphere, the calmness falls over you. So relaxed, peaceful, back in time…. You will find beautiful colonial buildings and numerous historic temples and monks everywhere. You can cycle along the river, see the immense golden Buddha statue Pha Bang and climb the 330 steps to the top of the Phu Si hill. A tough climb, but you will soon forget when you reached the top and enjoy the spectacular view of the city. It's clear why this city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List!
In the evening you can enjoy a delicious meal in one of the many restaurants that are available and you can buy souvenirs on the night market. And then sleep in one of the numerous, small-scale boutique hotels.
