North West Cambodia

Siem Reap is the main town in this region. But there is more.
Battambang is the second city of the country. It is a provincial city with a French touch. When you go overland from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, you shouldn’t miss Battambang. Here you can take a ride on the famous 'bamboo train', a primitive means of transport by rail.

Also worth a visit is the beloved Prasat Preah Vihear, on the border between Cambodia and Thailand. The ancient Khmer temple has a spectacular location with great views.

North East Cambodia

In this area the roads are rough, but you'll be rewarded by great natural beauty. Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces are very remote. The town of Kratie is situated on the Mekong River.
You can follow the Mekong River in the Laos direction, or vice versa, a perfect way to combine Cambodia with Laos.
