Day 1: Khon Kaen arrival in evening

Early evening arrival in Khon Kaen (by flight approx. 7pm)(flight not included). You will be picked up by a local English speaking guide. A short transfer will take you to your host family in the country village Khampom. Dinner and overnight stay at your Thai host family.
Meal: dinner

Remark: It is possible to arrive in Khon Kaen in the early morning (by flight approx. 7:10am). We have had early arrivals like that, but do not recommend to arrive in Khonkaen in the morning. Per our experience, most visitors who arrive that early, are very tired because they had to get up very early to catch the morning flight. They usually go to sleep upon arrival in the village. We recommend to arrive in the early evening for the best experience of this program.

Day 2: Village life and rice fields

Full day homestay program. The activities depend on the day of the visit. Below a number of activities  that can be included. Which activities can be done depends on the season and the particular day of the visit. The order of activities will be determined on the day of the tour by the tourguide, in consult with you. Your tourguide will lead you around. The village will be explored by walking.

• Experience the “tak bat” morning ceremonial collecting food by the monks;
• School visit on schooldays (not possible on Sat + Sun and school holidays);
• Village walk and visit the local people at home;
• Visit local handicraft workshops;
• Temple visit and talk with the monks;
• Drive through the surrounding rice fields, opportunity to do farming activities yourself;
• Buy ingredients at the local market for evening meal;
• Prepare your own dinner (host mother explains, guide translates, only for 4 persons or less);
• Buddhist blessing ceremony;
• Free time to explore the village on your own;
• Goodbye ceremony on last dinner;

After breakfast you will visit the village school (on school days). See the ceremonial beginning of a school day with the children singing the Thai national anthem followed by Buddhist prayer. After the ceremony you can enter the classroom. You will soon find yourself captured into an entertaining dialogue with the school children, who are probably as curious about Western life as you are about Thai life. Your guide will translate everything again. This school visit will be one of your more memorable experiences. Continue your walk through the village. Stop from time to time to see how the villagers leisurely spend their day or earn their living. Enjoy a delicious local lunch at a rice food stall.
In the afternoon you will go into the rice fields. Depending on the season you can see how rice is sown or harvested. If you want then you can help and do some manual labor yourself. Later this day you will visit the village market and buy the ingredients for your evening meal at the village market. Then it is time to go back to your host family. During dinner you can observe the village's evening activities. At the last evening with the host family, probably half the village will want to say goodbye to you. Following Isaan tradition you will receive a lot of good wishes and a wrist full of little ropes…
